Questo fascicolo documenta l'evoluzione del Talmud al di fuori del bet midras?, la "casa di studio" rabbinica, proponendo un'analisi delle appropriazioni moderne del Talmud attraverso il prisma delle diverse scienze umane: la filologia, gli studi letterari, l'antropologia, il diritto comparato, la filosofia. Questi approcci moderni al Talmud al di fuori del suo studio nella dimensione religiosa tradizionale sono il sintomo di una crisi moderna dell'identità ebraica, che si fonda su una rottura rispetto alla tradizione, ma allo stesso tempo si reinventa in una forma paradossale di fedeltà alla tradizione stessa.
